National Arts Honor Society brings Christmas cheer
November 18, 2020
The anticipation and excitement around the upcoming Christmas holiday is quickly gaining momentum at Mount Pisgah, and t he National Art Honor Society (NAHS), has been hard at work preparing for the festive occasion by creating several holiday-inspired projects.
One of these is decorating the window near the cafeteria in Geier Hall. The leaders of NAHS first sketch a Christmas themed design on the window, and all of the NAHS members will get together and paint the window on November 20th, just prior to the Thanksgiving break.
“I like these designs a lot. Like a lot,” says Mrs. Hunter, who is an upper school Art teacher and NAHS sponsor. Along with the success of the design, there were also struggles along the way, according to Hunter. The design team did not initially know the due date, which made it hard to get them on track. There was also a multi-step process to confirm the final design, and it was technologically challenging to get the designs to Mrs. Hunter since some of the members on the team were working virtually.
Another holiday project that is currently being designed by NAHS members is a Devotion book, which will contain inspirational verses from the Bible. Excerpts from the Devotion book will be read by different faculty and staff members each day during morning announcements.
NAHS is also designing Christmas cards that will be sent to the entire Pisgah community. Extra cards will also be available so that students and faculty can also send cards to each other. The verse on the card will read, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” -Matthew 20:28. This program, in addition, to the Thankgrams project that the NAHS spearheaded in November, have both promoted a celebration of gratitude.
“There are many different opportunities to volunteer, and NAHS is having its most active year ever” says Mrs. Hunter. “Even with Covid, you can still (safely) volunteer and participate through these kinds of things, and it will be good for our community.”
