National Hispanic Heritage month is celebrated each year from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and this year Mount Pisgah’s art students paid homage to Latin culture by creating their own art pieces, inspired by the style of various renowned Hispanic artists.
Art teachers Mrs. Delgado and Mrs. Steele helped middle and upper school students bring the collection of artwork to life. They transformed the art hallway to display student artwork as a way of recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic culture in society across history.
Students were inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo and aspects and symbols from various South American cultures.
Delgado, a native Puerto Rican, was heavily invested in the project, fueled by the hope that “it would be a way to include more Hispanic culture and representation of Latin artists at Pisgah”.
Steele said that her favorite part of this project was seeing how students interpreted and created artwork.
“It was amazing to see our students take inspiration from a different cultures and artists to transform their own artwork into completely new creations,” said Steele.
Delgado added that she “loved seeing students learn and appreciate stories and famous figures from a different culture.”
The artwork created in celebration is currently being displayed in the middle school until Friday, Oct. 25. Students and teachers are encouraged to visit the art hallway and observe the artwork inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month.
