Imagine being one student in a graduating class of 10 people. That was the everyday reality for Mount Pisgah’s class of 2004.
Six members from the class of 2004 returned to campus on Friday Oct. 4 and were honored on the field during halftime of the Patriot’s homecoming game. Bridget Atchinson, Stephanie Butts, Mason Broadwell, Winston Fitzhugh, Whitney Harvey, and Jason Soby are members of the first graduating class of Mount Pisgah, and 2024 marks their 20 year high school reunion.
In the past 20 years, a lot has changed at Mount Pisgah. The school has grown physically by welcoming new academic buildings and an athletic campus. Class sizes have gotten larger as more families have been led to the school. Countless Alpha to Omega students have made their way through the different divisions, and teachers have come in and out blessing knowledge upon all of the students they teach. Many new programs, sports, clubs, and traditions have started at Mount Pisgah since the first days of the school.
“I wondered what the school would be like after 20 years and lots of growth, and I was refreshed to find that it still felt like a place I’d be comfortable. It was pleasant to see how the school has grown and how it plans to manage its growth in the future,” said Broadwell.
While a 10 person graduating class may seem unusual because of the class sizes Mount Pisgah has today, the class of 2004 looks back and sees it as a blessing.
“It was truly special. We were paving through the fields of Mount Pisgah Academia and trying out many things for the first time. We were the first to do many things,” said Fitzhugh.
Broadwell added, “My time at Mount Pisgah pushed me to be a better, more conscientious student. Specifically, the small class sizes and personal interactions with the teachers re-ignited my interest in learning.”
Because of the community that the class of 2004 helped establish at Mount Pisgah 20 years ago, for many it will always feel like home.
“The memories I relive and smile most about are the days of endless laughter, to the point of tears and not being able to breathe, with my friends and classmates. We made the best out of our days together…just the 10 of us,” said Harvey.
