Mount Pisgah’s new club is hitting all the high notes offering a creative outlet for students. The Glee Club explores various forms of artistic expression, including vocal range, vocal control, and dance performances.
After surveying students about what kind of vocal program they wanted, students chose a more informal performance setting.
Founded by Christa Deana Young, the club’s mission is to provide a supportive environment for students to explore new ideas and talents using song and dance.
“I think Glee Club is important for high school students because it helps build confidence by doing something that scares them,” said Young.
In addition to fostering creativity, the club aims to build a sense of community among students.
“Glee is important to our school because not only does singing, in general, teach people voice control, teamwork, and hand-eye coordination, but it also allows you to get to know people you don’t normally hang out with and there are people from different grades, experiences, and backgrounds,” said Paige Richards.
As part of their inaugural activities, the Glee Club plans to organize a spring art showcase, providing students with an opportunity to present their work to the school community.
Members will also have the chance to collaborate with the other arts programs.
The establishment of the Glee Club aligns with Mount Pisgah’s broader goals of enhancing student engagement and promoting extracurricular involvement.
“Glee club is something that is starting small, but we hope that eventually we will get enough interest and enough repeated attendance that it could be something that we start to offer during the school day,” explains Daniel Hilton, Director of Arts.
Interested in joining the Glee Club? They meet in the orchestra room during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students are encouraged to engage and bring a willingness to experiment. Activities will include group brainstorming sessions, choreography practice, and opportunities to showcase members’ songs.
