Gracie Abrams released the deluxe version of her fourth studio album, The Secret of Us, on Oct. 18, featuring 4 new bonus tracks.
The album has led to Abrams’ rise to fame. She is currently the opening artist for Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” and earned a Grammy nomination for best new artist.
The Secret of Us is a folk-pop album and has a primary focus about a good relationship turned bad, with most songs being breakup ballads.
The first song on the album, “Felt Good About You” introduces the listeners to the heartbreak that Abrams went through.
Abrams showcases her songwriting abilities, which are similar to those of Swift. Swift is even featured on track five of Abrams’ album, titled “us”. Any Swiftie knows that track five is always the most vulnerable or emotional song on her albums, and it’s no different with The Secret of Us.
“Good Luck Charlie” is a song that has been interpreted in different ways. The song tells the story of someone named Charlie, who is going through a situation similar to Abrams. He is having trouble moving on from Audrey, the girl he is now broken up with. The song has a sadder tone and a slower beat.
Though most of the songs tell the story of Abrams’ breakup, the songs “Risk” and “Close to You” seem more hopeful and seem to spotlight new love.
Overall, Abrams beautifully combined cheerful and somber to craft the perfect album.
