Danielle DuBois, a 2021 Mount Pisgah graduate, has found a lot of success in college.
DuBois is currently a senior at Emerson college, double majoring in both journalism and sports communication.
From her junior year at Pisgah, she was set on pursuing a career in journalism.
“Being a part of the Liberty Bell furthered my love for journalism and solidified my future career,” says DuBois.
Also, the skills she learned through journalism class helped her achieve that dream.
“Learning how to interview and the AP style guide in my first journalism class are skills I continue to use to this day and will always cherish learning in high school,” explains DuBois.
DuBois has scored internships at many high-level programs.
“My first internship was with FOX 5 Atlanta in their sports department,” she explains.
She continued by working with Emerson’s new channel WEBN-TV Boston, Channel 7 in Boston, and now works with The Boston Globe.
“With the Boston Globe Today show I assist with editing, creating graphics, and producing segments. I even produced my first ever full show on Friday, Oct. 18,” she says.
However, along with her success, DuBois has had to fight the male dominance of the sports world.
“I have been the only woman in multiple different newsrooms and press conferences and have heard some comments from men about only being a pretty face,” she explains.
Despite this setback, it does not stop her from succeeding. She continues to work towards the goal of being a sideline reporter for the NFL or rinkside reporter for the NHL, encouraging other girls and women to do the same.
“Persevere,” she says. “It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of unusual hours and thick skin but if you love this industry it will love you.”
