After coming out of the record-breaking 2023-2024 season with historical state finishes, the Mount Pisgah Varsity Swim Team is geared up and ready to go for the 2024-2025 season.
Since the start of their season in October, the Varsity Swim Team has been undergoing weeks of challenging practices to prepare for this season, which will continue until the GHSA State Championships at Georgia Tech in February. Each swimmer on the team trains with one of two goals in mind: drop time or make the state team.
Coach Allison Hopkins says that her main goal for the swimmers this season is to “give the workouts and tools they need to meet their end goals” and to have “the best season yet.”
The Mount Pisgah swim team is rooted in the “Swimmer Constitution.” This document outlines the program’s philosophy, which includes hard work, determination, dedication, teamwork, honorable dealings with success and failure and Christ-centeredness in everything done as a team.
Even though swimming is mainly an independent sport, the program’s value of being family-oriented defines the strong relationship between the individual and the team. It is with the help and support from teammates that the swimmers have had success in and out of the pool.
Hopkins says, “The strongest value of this team is that we are a big family. We come together each night before practice to have a devotional time and hang out together. I think that time together has helped create an incredible group who truly support each other.”
The swim team kicked off their season with a huge win at the St. Francis Tri-Meet on Nov. 6. Sophomore Lauritz Adriansen won the 500 freestyle with a state qualifying time, senior Campbell Grace Cummins won the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle with two state qualifying times and the boys’ 400 freestyle relay (Maddox Wright, James Crutchfield, Brendan Noll and Lauritz Adriansen) placed first with a new school record.
With the program having grown so much in the span of a few years, the swimmers have continued to build a welcoming community that is always looking for new additions to the team.
“I think this will be our best season,” said Hopkins.
