Student Leadership Johns Creek (SLJC) is an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership skills. It provides a platform for workshop experience to develop, energize, and activate community leaders in Johns Creek.
The Student Leadership of Johns Creek profoundly enhances students’ education with government and business activities that develop leadership skills.
“Student Leadership of Johns Creek goes beyond leadership through speaking by developing other leadership qualities such as dependability, decisiveness, endurance, teamwork, loyalty, knowledge, and tact,” said Mr. Mulrennan, the club’s sponsor.
In order to become a member of SLJC, students must go through a rigorous application process. The club is also very selective.
“The student must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, and fill out an extensive application that reveals their motivation and potential for leadership growth. The application also requires a thorough recommendation from a current teacher,” said Mulrennan.
On Nov. 14, the Mount Pisgah 2026 blue team, composed of 10 sophomores and juniors, attended a workshop day. Throughout the day Mount Pisgah’s team and teams from other schools had a chance to visit the Fulton County government, Supreme Court and Atlanta Tech Village.
The SLJC class of 2026 met Fulton County Commissioner Bridget Thorne and learned the process and categories of the Fulton County Service, which includes elections, water supply, and economic development throughout Fulton County.
Then they headed to the courtroom of Judge Rachelle Carnesale and witnessed the impactful My Journey Matters program, a baby supplies donation program in action by seeing participants receive donations supplied by SLJC.
“It was fascinating to see the real court and people’s different experiences in life,” said sophomore SLJC member, Jina Di. “It opened a new perspective of a world I’ve never seen. I am really grateful that I am a member of the group.
The final destination was the Tech Village, a startup community and coworking place focusing on fostering tech-driven business. Students had a chance to tour around the building and learn the pros and cons of entrepreneurship.
“I learned that entrepreneurship takes a lot of time and lots of effort,” said sophomore Cydney Rowand. “I really appreciate that I got a chance to be a part of the program that provides a lot of opportunities for me and my peers to grow our leadership skills.”
SLJC is a fantastic program for current high school students, and it takes the initiative to foster leadership, community services, and personal growth. This program not only builds future leaders, but also strengthens the ties among high school students in the Johns Creek area.
