On Oct. 8, the nominations of the 67th annual Grammy Award were announced.
Beyonce leads with new 11 nominations– the most of any other going into the ceremony. She also breaks her tie with Jay-Z of becoming the most nominated artist in the show’s history with 99 total nominations. She earned her three nominations in the Big Four category (which include Album of the Year (AOTY), Song of the Year (SOTY), Record of the Year (ROTY), and Best New Artist.) Her album COWBOY CARTER could potentially win AOTY. Lead single “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” is vying for ROTY and SOTY.
After the neon green explosion of “brat” summer, Charli XCX receives her first solo nominations in the Grammys by being up for seven awards. Notably, “360” is considered for ROTY, and “Apple” is proposed for Best Pop Solo Performance. The album brat is nominated for AOTY and Best Dance/Electronic Album.
Charli XCX and Billie Eilish have been both nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with their remix of “Guess.” Eilish is also up for seven awards with her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. It has received nominations for AOTY and Best Pop Vocal Album. “BIRDS OF THE FEATHER” is considered for ROTY and SOTY.
Kendrick Lamar earns seven nominations, six of which come from hit song “Not Like Us.” That song is nominated for two awards in the Big Four Category — ROTY and SOTY. Post Malone also is considered for seven awards, all of which are from songs and records that he was featured on. His feature of Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” is nominated for ROTY and SOTY.
Swift is up for six awards. With her nomination for AOTY with The Tortured Poets Department, she has broken the record of most female nominations in the AOTY category. The “Eras Tour” movie, the highest grossing concert film of all time, was snubbed for Best Music Film category.
With their hit songs that conquered the internet landscape, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are nominated for every award in the Big Four category. They both are nominated for six awards apiece. Roan’s album The Rise and Fall of the Midwest Princess and single “Good Luck Babe” and Carpenter’s album Short ‘n Sweet, which includes “Espresso” in the tracklist, are winning them both their overdue flowers.
The Grammy ceremony will reveal which of the nominees will come out as a winner in their categories on Feb. 1.
