Mount Pisgah hosted its first signing day of the year on Nov. 13, with one student-athlete signing to take both her swimming and academic talents to Berry College.
Senior Campbell Cummins is the one of two swimmers at Mount Pisgah to swim at the collegiate level, following Haley Agin, who swims at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, from Mount Pisgah’s class of 2020.
This a personal milestone for Cummins, and it underlined the growing strength of the Mount Pisgah swimming program.
“With the swim program getting larger and stronger each year, I am beyond thankful to represent the Mount Pisgah community beyond our team and make our program more known,” said Cummins.
Cummins’ signing represents the growing stature of Mount Pisgah’s swim team, always established in the school’s athletic program but recently making waves.
Cummins chose Berry College for a combination of academic and athletic reasons.
“I chose Berry for multiple reasons,” she explained. “They have a very strong Animal Science program that will prepare me extremely well for Veterinary School. I knew I wanted a school that felt like my tight-knit community at Mount Pisgah, and Berry offers that with its clubs and sports. Also, the Life Works program, which guarantees students eight semesters of paid professional development was a huge draw. I get hands-on experience with animals at their management facilities. That is exactly what I need for my career goals.”
Despite the magnitude of the day, Cummins wasn’t nervous.
“Knowing that other athletes around the country were also signing on the same day as me made me excited for the next four years,” she said.
Swimming has always been a central part of Cummins’ life, even when faced with early mornings and challenging workouts.
“Swimming is an individual-based sport, but the community of athletes is so uplifting and hardworking,” she said. “That’s what keeps me going. Swimming at Berry is the next chapter of my swimming career, and I’m thrilled to continue the sport that’s been such a pivotal part of my life.”
Her signing is one of her family’s and Mount Pisgah’s proudest moments, as it signals the opening of an exciting new chapter for Cummins and the school’s swim program.
