For the first time this winter, Mount Pisgah will host a Sadie Hawkins dance and it will be an event to remember.
A Sadie Hawkins dance flips the roles — the girls ask the boys to be their dates, instead of the traditional boys asking girls.
A lot of seniors expressed their want for a winter dance and since homecoming’s attendance was so high, administration gave the idea the greenlight.
“I loved this idea, especially since it included lowerclassmen as well as upperclassmen,” said Ali Weller, Dean of Student Engagement. “It is also a big break, so I’m excited to have something fun for the students in between.”
The best part about this dance is its timing. It falls during the dreadful break between Christmas break and spring break. This period is usually when students feel loaded with schoolwork and dragged down by winter weather. This year, students will have a fun dance to look forward to, keeping them motivated—a perfect opportunity to break up the monotony of spring semester.
Senior Blakely Lane is the senior responsible for getting the Sadies dance approved.
“The first few months of the year are some of the hardest, and I wanted something that was going to liven up January and February. So I went to Ms. Weller with the proposal of a winter dance,” said Lane.
In order to make the dance a successful one, Weller is putting together a committee of students to help plan the night.
“[The committee] will work on the theme, decorations, and music, and we are thinking of adding some sort of service drive or collection,” said Weller.
This dance will be designed to be fun for everyone, whether you’re going on a date, with a group of friends or even riding solo. This reversed tradition adds fun to the night, allowing the ladies to take the lead.
So, on Feb. 1, prepare to dress up, have fun with friends, and make memories with your classmates.
