After coming off an exciting 2024 season where the girls achieved a state podium finish and many athletes placed in the top eight at state, the Mount Pisgah track and field team is prepared for another successful season.
Pre-season practices began in December in order for athletes to be well-conditioned for the official start of practice on Jan 27. Additionally, to improve overall performance, there will be a weight training practice once a week when practice officially begins.
There are also new coaches joining the track team who have a plethora of experience.
“Coach Alan Marks will lead our throws event group and Coach Mike Sinco will lead our distance event group,” said Jordan Snellings, head coach of the track and field team.
Coach Sinco comes from coaching the middle schoolers at Chattahoochee and has led his team to the podium at state nine out of 11 years.
Additionally, the competition will be a little different this season as Mount Pisgah track is now in 1A-3A private and will face larger schools like Wesleyan. However, the goal is still the same as the past few years.
“The goal this year is to have both the boys and girls teams return to a podium finish at the state meet,” said Snellings.
The first meet of the season is on Feb. 22 at Forsyth Central where the Patriots are looking to make a statement.
“I am looking forward to the start of the season and getting the chance to see veteran and new track and field athletes push themselves and achieve their goals,” said Snellings.
