Feb. 1, Mount Pisgah hosted their first-ever Sadie Hawkins winter formal, donating all ticket proceeds to Camp Lighthouse.

Many of our students spend their summers serving at Camp Lighthouse, but what exactly is the camp all about?
One of the camp founders, Beth Tanzy, shares why she and her husband started the camp, “We have 3 children, all who graduated from MPCS, and every summer they [went] to a Christian camp. This camp had such a positive influence on their independence, confidence, and most importantly their faith. It made us sad to think that there are many families who can’t afford to provide this experience for their kids,” said Tanzy.
Since 2011, Camp Lighthouse has provided a traditional summer camp experience for children whose families could otherwise not afford it. Children enjoy time at the lake on their property, make crafts with counselors, and hear messages about God.

Camp Lighthouse partners with local shelters including City of Refuge, Atlanta Mission, The Drake House, and Restoration Atlanta.
Just like a normal summer camp, many traditions make the camp so memorable for everyone who participates.
“My favorite tradition is Glow Chapel (the Gospel explained with glow sticks) and then seeing our counselors share their testimonies individually with their campers,” said Tanzy.
Mount Pisgah junior, Ellie Plunkett, serves at Camp Lighthouse as a counselor and shared her favorite memory from her time spent at camp.

“My favorite memory with a camper is making a dance to Katy Perry’s song Firework to perform at the talent show. The crowd went crazy,” said Plunkett.
The camp is structured differently than most, with each camper only having one counselor.
Mount Pisgah senior and counselor for Camp Lighthouse, AnnaKate McSpadden explains the thought process behind this.
“The one-to-one ratio we have with our camper allows us to create relationships with them. It is very important for the camper to experience this one-on-one relationship to be able to talk about God and serious things happening in their lives.” said McSpadden, “When these campers come to camp, they get to experience things they haven’t experienced before. A lot of the campers that come to camp have a lot of responsibilities at home so this is a time they can hang out and do whatever they would like – whether that is playing basketball, drawing, or making friendship bracelets.”
Tanzy encourages Mount Pisgah students who are interested in serving.
“Please come be a part of the Lighthouse family! You will bond with your fellow counselors and your heart and faith will be impacted by the campers you serve,” said Mrs. Tanzy.
