The 2000s are known for some of the best romantic comedies ever, from “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” to “Serendipity” and “10 Things I Hate About You.”
As some of these movies reach the 20-year mark, the iconic actors have started hinting at the possibility of sequels and revamps that may start to be in the works over the next few years.
“They tend to have more depth than movies from now,” remarked Mr. Durrance about the rom-coms of his early years.
Actors such as Kate Hudson from “How to Lose Guy in 10 Days” and Amanda Seyfried from legendary “Mamma Mia” and “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” both were said to be open to the proposition.
Chatter has also been heard about a third “Princess Diaries” after a 21-year hiatus. This celebrated franchise is a pivotal movie watched by many girls and has a message of love and family ties.
Although some movies need a deserved sequel, some cannot be tainted. Masterpieces like “The Notebook” or “13 Going on 30” are too good to be made new or have a part two.
“These movies should be left alone,” said Ms. Morris.
Sophomore Elorey Pino echoes Morris’ thoughts about sequels.
“It’s called a classic for a reason,” said Pino
Revamps have been less discussed throughout the Hollywood scene. But movies like “The Proposal” and “27 Dresses” have a good chance of doing well in today’s box office. I love these movies and would love to see more of them as long as they are done right.
“They could be good depending on the storyline,” said Morris about these movies that shaped her childhood.
Most people have voiced strong opinions about new remakes and sequels.
“Hollywood needs new ideas,” Morris adds about revamps and sequels.
As much as I agree that new ideas are needed in the Hollywood scene, seeing these movies become even more prominent in my lifetime makes me strongly believe in the revamp and sequel cause.
I have always loved these movies, and as I watch each one, the hopeless romantic in me thrives. These movies are feel-good and deserve to be seen in a new light. This generation will learn more by growing up with movies such as these, which will make them believe in love again.
Movies such as these have changed lives for the better. They deserve to be seen in the same way now that they were 20 years ago.
