Mount Pisgah National Art Honor Society’s most recent project was making dog toys for the local animal shelters.
This yearly tradition is a great way for the members to get involved in the community.
“We collect old t-shirts and Veronica Hedrick teaches members how to make dog toys from strips of fabric cut from the t-shirts,” said NAHS sponsor, Mrs. Steele.
Making these dog toys is more complicated than it seems. Each shirt is cut into four equal pieces starting below the sleeves and neckline, then tied into tight knots. There is a specific way to tie these so they do not easily come undone.
After the toys are made, members of NAHS will go to local shelters to donate them.
“I will reach out to the Animal Hospital of Nesbit Ferry, Spalding Animal Hospital, and Fur Kids to see if they are interested in the donations,” said Steele.
For the past three years, members of NAHS have spent a club meeting making these for the community.
“We always have a ton of fun with this project. It is also amazing that it is for such a great cause,” said vice president of NAHS, Abby Hart.
