Just like smiling at someone or giving a compliment, ordering a drink from Starbucks can sometimes be the highlight of someone’s day.
Before 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, Starbucks would always write on cups with a Sharpie, and five years later, they are bringing back that practice to create a welcoming environment and to make their customers’ experience more personal
“I think the notes do help bring community and sometimes notes help customers and staff connect on a different level,” said freshman Chloe Parker. “It also helps me start off my day on a good note with words of kindness.”
With the policy switch starting at the end of January, many people believe that writing notes on the cups has had a positive impact on their customers.
“I think it helps spread kindness and forms connections with people. It definitely helps from a community standpoint.” said Codie Edgar, Upper School biology teacher.
While most people find these messages endearing, some have the opposite opinion.
“I honestly feel like it’s kind of weird. I think teenagers might find these notes kind of cringey or a little bit stalker-ish. So in my opinion, it’s just different but it may make people feel uncomfortable,” said senior Sarah Ann Stonecipher.
Overall, the newest addition of Starbucks notes have a pretty noticeable effect on their customers. Although many people have different opinions on these new notes, the majority of their customers enjoy the extra step that Starbucks now takes to make your day even better.
