Mount Pisgah students have had the privilege to wear letterman jackets instead of blazers on Thursdays in the past however, this is no longer allowed.
According to Mrs. Nardella and Mrs. Reilly, around 10 years ago students had a choice of wearing their blazer or their letterman jackets on dress uniform days. However, students no longer get that choice and only blazers are allowed to be worn on Thursday.
Senior Riley Altiere believes that at the very least, upperclassmen should have the privilege to wear their letterman jackets.
“I think only seniors should [be able to wear letterman jackets] because we have worn the uniform correctly for the past 4 years and we deserve a break.”
Many seniors feel after years of following the uniform policy they deserve a slight adjustment. Allowing them to wear letterman jackets could be seen as an award for their commitment to the dress code.
However, I do not think there is a need for this year-round. It would be most beneficial during the colder months such as December through the end of February, especially because we walk across the street for Fresh Air.
“It’s hard during the winter and blazers are very thin so I wish I was able to wear my letterman jacket to stay warm,” said Altiere.
Junior Phoebe Koch shares a similar viewpoint
“I like to wear a letterman on Thursdays because I think it’s warmer and cuter [than a blazer].”
Many students think that letterman jackets are practical and fashionable for dress days. This highlights a shared opinion among the students at Mount Pisgah that while blazers are tradition, they are not always practical.
Mrs. Woods, however, holds a different perspective.
“We have a dress uniform once a week, and the blazer is what makes it our professional best,” stated Woods. “However, I do not mind students wearing letterman jackets for warmth over their blazers.”
This emphasizes the school’s desire to maintain a professional and polished appearance.
