Every fan of a music artist has wanted to see them in concert ,but sometimes that dream dies after looking at the prices of the tickets. An example would be Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
Bailey Waller is a Swiftie who couldn’t go to the concert because of the insane ticket prices.
“When we were on the queue for tickets, the website not only crashed but later on the tickets ended up being $3,000. That would’ve been a lot of money to spend on one concert for three hours,” said Waller.
$3,000 is a lot of money for a three hour event. But, unfortunately, that was not even the most expensive ticket option that was available. The most expensive ticket sold for the Eras Tour was $12,000.
So when did tickets start to get so expensive? In 2000 the average ticket was $40. By 2019, the average ticket was $95. And today, the average ticket price is a soaring $300. If focused on seats in the pit section of a concert, those tickets can be up to $1,000.
Parker Durrance is a music fan who has paid for many concerts before. He believes tickets should be at reasonable prices.
“I remember back in the 90s there was an interview from Kurt Cobain and he was talking about how tickets shouldn’t be that expensive because the purpose of an artist is to connect with their fans, not to make money. I think that’s part of the problem too: artists are caring too much about money and not enough about connecting to their fans,” said Durrance.
Artists should realize this costly problem and find a way to make their tickets more affordable for all their fans who want to go.
Some artists have found ways to do this by making their tickets only allowed to be sold at the concert venue.
This means huge companies like Ticketmaster are not able to resell tickets for over the top prices. There could also be a way online, where once you buy the tickets you are not allowed to resell them.
These things could help keep the prices of tickets down and help fans go enjoy more concerts they want to attend.
