Paul the Patriot has been Mount Pisgah’s favorite mascot since the early 2000s, filling the school with spirit.
Here is an inside look at the beloved mascot Paul the Patriot.
How does it feel to have the responsibility of being Paul the Patriot?
Paul the Patriot: From lower school kids to alumni and faculty, everyone at Mount Pisgah is part of the Patriot family. It’s my duty to make sure every fan, student and visitor feels welcomed and valued when they see me. Whether it’s dancing with students, posing for pictures, or getting the crowd pumped, I have to connect with all generations.
We want to know what you do outside of school. What does your day-to-night routine look like?
Paul the Patriot: Every morning I get up at dawn and do 50 jumping jacks (one for each state). I like to eat a stack of waffles or pancakes the size of the Statue of Liberty. Once I get to school on pep rally days, I hype up the students with chants. Every night, I eat a giant turkey leg with fries and a dessert of apple pie with ice cream while watching Hamilton. I also read the Liberty Bell and my favorite poem: Paul Revere’s Ride by Henry Longfellow.
You mentioned hyping up students. What are your favorite chants and things to do during pep rallies, athletic events, and etcetera?
Paul the Patriot: Beside saying “Lets go Patriots”, my favorite chant is “Red, white and blue,” because those are obviously the best colors.
What are some challenges about being Paul the Patriot?
Paul the Patriot: No matter how tired or hot it gets, I must stay positive and high-energy to keep students and fans engaged. Even if our team is losing or the crowd is quiet, I have to lead the charge and bring the enthusiasm. Watching some other school beat our wonderful school really takes a toll on a mascot’s mental health sometimes.
What is the best thing about being you?
Paul the Patriot: I embody the strength and courage of a true patriot, leading by example with honor, integrity and a deep love for God and country. Whether I’m pumping up the crowd at a game, encouraging students to pursue excellence, or just bringing a little extra fun to campus life, I do it all with a big heart and an even bigger presence.
What makes you the best mascot?
Paul the Patriot: I’m not just here for entertainment—I represent leadership, courage and perseverance. I encourage students to push themselves academically, athletically and spiritually, just like a real Patriot would. Also, what other mascot can do clapping push-ups every time we score?
What is your message for all the students and faculty of Mount Pisgah?
Paul the Patriot: First off—y’all are awesome. Seriously. Each of you has a purpose, a talent and a chance to make a difference. So don’t waste it! Work hard, be kind and lift each other up. School isn’t just about grades—it’s about growing into the person God made you to be. So keep showing up, giving your best, and, most of all, having fun. Fly high! GO PATS!!!
