As a community, we are fortunate to have an art teacher like Mrs. Steele. She is a calm and gentle mentor whose approach has encouraged many of us to develop a deeper appreciation for the world of creativity.
She inspires many of us here at Mount Pisgah, and highlighting her background in art is pivotal to getting to know her as an art teacher.
Steele’s favorite pieces of art are the pool paintings by David Hockney, because they give her a sense of relaxation and peace in her current situation. It reminds her of the beach and provides her with a sense of tranquility.
“I’d like to have a big beach house and a massive one of his paintings overlooking the beach in my foyer,” said Steele.
Art is an inherently subjective medium – people respond differently to various works and forms of expression.
Whether it’s the sharp, deliberate strokes of a painter, the intricate carvings of a sculptor, or the fleeting moments captured in a photograph, art speaks to us in ways that words alone cannot.
It allows us to explore our emotions, challenge perceptions, and reflect on our own experiences.
Each piece of art evokes different feelings, and the importance of discovering Mrs. Steele’s favorite speaks volumes to her passion and personality as an artist.
“I love the painters of the Renaissance, the attention to detail and the love they had for art reflects how I intend to paint my pieces. I don’t exactly follow their style, but I appreciate it a lot,” says Steele.
Mrs Steele’s thoughtful and personal approach to art reveals the connections she strives to instill in the student body. Her admiration for David Hockney reflects her understanding of art as a means to discover peace and serenity.
Her choice of teaching art came from a connection between two of her passions.
“I like working with adolescents and I like art too, so it’s the best of both worlds,” states Steele.
It’s always important to recognize the beginning of your journey. Mrs Steele’s art journey began as a child, she did a lot of crafts when she was younger and grew to love creating things.
She has worked diligently since then to get where she is today, yet she remains persistent in continuing her search for growth.
