From stomping in the bleachers because of excitement or participating in chants echoing through the stands due to a good play; student sections play a massive role every game day.
“Student sections play a huge role in the outcome of the game because if [the athletes’] friends are cheering them on and motivating them, they could want to play and perform better than usual,” Valentina Feitosa-Caramelo.
The student section isn’t just a place where classmates sit— what brings the game to life. When students cheer and chant, the game becomes more enjoyable, not only for the students but also for the players.
“Players on the field can sense enthusiasm in the crowd, so the bigger the crowd, the more excited you are about playing. I lived through the COVID years when there was no crowd, and it wasn’t very exciting,” said varsity girls’ golf coach Brad Smith.
Whether you chant with the cheerleaders or encourage a friend on the field, all the energy, encouragement and enthusiasm help athletes while playing.
One example is spirit nights during football and basketball season. Students dress up, making the games even more fun and exciting.
“I feel like the number of people in a student section will determine how much they’re supporting you and how much the student body cares,” said freshman Reagan Andreen.
Students are there to cheer and unify as one school with all their classmates to show support. Participating in the student section can help you connect with friends outside of school by attending a fun sporting event.
With the school year coming to an end, there are only a few more opportunities to come to the PAC and cheer on the Patriots.
