Each year, the Masters brings the world’s best golfers to Augusta National, where history is made and legends are born. This year, the tournament once again delivered unforgettable moments.
The Masters tournament is distinct from any other major throughout the season. With its iconic venue, rich tradition, famous meals and intense competition, this tournament is highly anticipated and widely celebrated.
“I would say the tournament evokes a sense of love for the game of golf and just how timeless it is. The coolest thing is going to Augusta National personally and experiencing its historic presence yourself. It really is the prettiest golf course with each hole being represented by a different flower, and every inch of grass being cut to perfection,” says Jade Hudson, a member of the Mount Pisgah girls’ golf team.
However, many fans are forced to watch this tournament from the comfort of their own home, as tickets are very expensive and can be hard to come by without having a personal connection.
The main way the general public can gain access to this event is through the ticket lottery system, where fans can apply for a chance to purchase tickets for the next year’s tournament, including Practice Rounds and sometimes Tournament Rounds. This lottery is extremely competitive.
“While the ticket lottery system isn’t necessarily the fairest thing, I think it makes being a spectator at the tournament even more special…whenever a person does get to go to Augusta National, it makes the course have a mysterious type of feel and even more memorable,” adds Hudson.
The 2025 Masters tournament at Augusta National was a historic and emotionally charged event, resulting in Rory McIlroy’s long-awaited victory.
After an 11-year pursuit and a dramatic final round, McIlroy secured his first green jacket by defeating Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff, completing his career Grand Slam and joining an elite group of only six golfers to achieve this feat.
“My favorite part of the tournament was actually getting to experience it in person,” says Cole Munroe, a senior on the golf team who was lucky enough to go to Augusta National this year.
This year’s triumph not only ended Mcilroy’s decade-long major championship drought but also marked him as the first European to accomplish the Grand Slam, solidifying his legacy in golf history.
“It was Rory all the way, he deserved it,” added Munroe.
