“Avengers: Doomsday” is the first Avengers-based Marvel movie since “Avengers: Endgame”, and is set to come out May 1, 2026.
This marks a big step in Marvel history with Robert Downey Jr. coming back as a new character named Doctor Doom.
Some characters were unveiled by Marvel on March 27, 2025 in a live stream where fans anxiously awaited the return of beloved characters such as Spiderman. New faces to the Marvel Universe will get their full debut in “Avengers: Doomsday” with roles being played by Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby.
With the release of the cast list online, there has been speculation on which characters will make a reappearance. Some of the cast have their roles as some are suspiciously either left off the list and others are still in speculation.
“If not Doom, I would be excited to see what spiderman will be like in this one. If there will be a matured version of Spiderman,” said Parker Durrance, a huge Marvel fan.
Hayley Atwell, my favorite actress, plays the character Peggy Carter in the MCU,
and her character is the love interest of Captain America throughout the franchise.
Her name has been on the cast list since its announcement, but her character’s name is suspiciously left out.
Atwell’s co-star Chris Evans, who plays Captain America was taken off the list in the last two weeks and as a lover of anything Evans related, I was disappointed to see his name disappear.
Many fans are angry that Scarlett Johansen was left off the cast list. With her ending in the movie “Avengers: Endgame”, and her sacrifice for the soul stone, everyone was hopeful there would be a loophole for her to finally be back.
The question is, with not much background on the new characters will there be any context for their entrance?
“For ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ they spent so long with character development. I could understand seeing characters without backstory and context being a problem in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.” Durrance also adds.
Throughout the years of the Infinity Saga, we received detailed information about each of the characters on the screen. In the new “Doomsday” movie, we have only a little information about all of the many characters set to grace the screen.
The only characters who are going to get movies before the film lands on the big screen are the new and improved “Fantastic Four”, a group called the “Thunderbolts” which includes Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s bestfriend (who is a fan favorite), and another Spiderman movie called “Spiderman: Brand New Day.”
As much as I love Marvel, this new faze and vision worries me. I love these characters, but I don’t know if basically replicating “Avengers: Endgame” is a tactic they should use after how many flops like “Eternals“ and “She-Hulk” they have had lately.
I believe that they have way too many characters to have a solid plot and execution of that plot without proper lead up. The Russo brothers and Kevin Feige have been known to beat around the bush not just in their movie plots, but in what movie they release at each time.
An example of this would be how long it took them to finally have a Black Widow movie made, or even give Hawkeye the recognition he deserves in his Christmas TV series.
I may think that too many characters would drag the plot out, but Jocelyn Merry believes differently.
“I think it will be in favor because they’re using it as a set up for secret wars but there’s probably going to be a lot of deaths of beloved characters,” Merry says.
Although this movie could flop, the benefit of the doubt should be given. They are finally giving us good releases (high time they should) and they might be onto something with this new era, so I will still be highly anticipating this new movie.
