Mount Pisgah’s Thespian Society debuted “Alice Through the Looking Glass” April 9-12, showcasing a whimsical and dynamic performance by the cast.
The play takes place in Alice’s dream after she steps through the looking glass. Her goal is to travel over all eight squares on the chess board and become a queen. The audience watches her journey as she travels through each square meeting many different characters, some familiar to the original movie, who help her along the way.
Ardyn Gettmann was an audience member at one of the shows.
“I really enjoyed the play not only because it was really funny but the cast also interacted with the audience. I was actually one of the people who got the flowers during one of the scenes. I found it very unexpected and fun,” said Gettmann
A lot of work went into the creation and adaptation of “Alice Through the Looking Glass”.

“It was a very creative process getting everything together because there are a lot of abstract ideas. I think that abstract allowed us to bring together the whimsy of the play which helped create the humor. The play was definitely made perfect for this cast,” said senior Pearl Melioris, who played the White Queen.
Beginning in February, the Thespian Society started planning and rehearsing the play. The cast had to memorize lines, make costumes and set pieces, and learn all of the blocking. For those in attendance, all of their hard work came out on the stage during each performance.
This cast for “Alice” had veteran actors, such as Melioris, as well as newcomers to the Thespian Society.
“It was fun to see student actors have different personalities from what they have from their day to day. It’s fun to create a new fantasy that is then played out by actors. The audience watches one hour of the play but doesn’t see the 200+ hours that goes into it,” said Daniel Hilton, director of “Alice Through the Looking Glass.”
The main character, Alice, was played by sophomore Paige Richards.
“Having the honor to work with such a talented, fun cast created so many memories I will cherish forever. From blocking the scenes to sets and costumes, everybody was such a joy to work with. I will definitely really miss the cast and crew,” said Richards.
