If our school suddenly turned into the world of “The Hunger Games”, what teacher do you think would walk out of the arena victorious?
It’s a question that’s been stuck in my head, so naturally, I had to ask the people who know our staff best: other teachers and administrators.
Before I reveal their answer, let’s do a quick refresher.
In Suzanne Collins’ “Hunger Games” series, the fictional nation of Panem hosts a yearly televised competition where two kids from each district are chosen to fight for survival. The way to win is to outlive every other competitor, which takes strategy, intelligence, and the ability to outsmart everyone else to ensure your survival..
The administration came together and decided that out of all the Upper School teachers, Mrs. Kasey Saari would be the winner of the Hunger Games.
“Mrs. Saari is ruthless in her own way; she is knowledgeable and very smart,” said Mr. Smith.
While we all know and love her for being kind and compassionate, those same qualities might actually help her win. She could fly under the radar, building alliances until it’s too late for anyone to stop her.
Mrs. Ippolito agrees saying, “[Saari] has a lot of smart, witty and cunning skills. She is smiley and welcoming, which makes her not seem like a threat to others – until it is too late. In other words, Mrs. Saari is the perfect blend of friendly and fierce. She’s the type of person who could win your trust…and then win the whole game.
So if the Hunger Games ever come to our school (let’s hope they don’t), don’t count on strength alone to decide the outcome. Count on Mrs. Saari.
