In honor of the new arts season, Thespian Troupe 7371 is hosting an event to show what being in Thespian Society is all about. The event will be held in The Blackbox Theater (H119) on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 3-6 p.m.
“[The event will be] a sampling platter of all the different areas of theater, so tech, improv, acting, some physical theater stuff, but the goal is really just to have fun and to sort of build and rebuild our identity as a troupe outside of just doing plays,” said troupe director Daniel Hilton.
The thespian troupe is a very important part of Mount Pisgah’s Fine Arts Program, sharing stories onstage to bring people together with a plethora of personalities.
“You can still be who you are and not fit into what you think the mold of a theater kid is,” said Hilton. “I don’t think we have one type of student in our group, that’s why it’s so great, because there are a lot of different interests.”
Even if you wouldn’t consider yourself a performer in any way, trying something different could be the perfect step to make friends with new people.
“I enjoy working with other people who I don’t normally get to see in my classes,” said junior Anslee Peacock. “It’s a big mix of seniors, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors so you get to meet people who you wouldn’t have met before.”
The event is open to both current and new Thespian Society members who are thinking of joining. There will be improv games, acting workshops, and pin making in preparation for the troupe’s trip to Thescon in February.
“There is no commitment or expectation that you must join, but if you have any interest at all, then come to the kickoff event to see what you think,” said senior Sanhita Panse.
“It’s a space where you don’t really need to be something that you’re not, whereas in school, you might feel pressured to paint this image about yourself that isn’t necessarily true to what you do or who you are,” said junior and stage manager Kamsi Onuoka.
