Seniors painting their parking spots is a longstanding tradition that highlights more than being the oldest in the high school.
The students get to show off their personalities, traits, or creativity in their design. It gives an opportunity for the seniors to build a bonded community and lasting memories for their last year of high school.
“I chose my design of the FC Barcelona logo to celebrate the best club in the world. It represents hope, grit and winning. I also believe we will win the UCL this year, and I will celebrate on my spot when we do,” said RJ Zeising.
Other seniors used famous characters in the design of their spot. Karly Johnson used Barbie as the central theme around her spot.
“I picked my design because I love Barbie, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to highlight my love for it,” explained Johnson.
Senior parking spots range from simple designs to the most intricate ones. Each senior faced setbacks, but all made their design a reality.
“The most challenging part of the design was choosing the specific colors that I wanted because I didn’t want them to be too similar or too different and wanted them to go well together in different contrasts,” said Grayson Barrett. “Also, the spacing of the lines and keeping everything meticulous became difficult for me because I am a perfectionist.”
Winston Simmons chose to create an album cover because he loves music, and he, too, faced challenges in completing his design.
“It was definitely [using] the stencils that were the most difficult part. I freehanded everything, so it took a really long time,” explained Simmons.
Mount Pisgah Christian School used this kickoff event to centralize this year’s theme of belonging, fostering school spirit and individuality within the student body.
“I believe it was an important kickoff event for the senior class because we all got to unite and express ourselves through art. It brought families and friends together and was a wonderful time,” said Ziesing.
It is crucial for seniors to start the year off with excitement and optimism. This annual senior event is not about trying to have the best art, but marking the start of their final year by creating lasting memories.
“We were all able to get together for the first time in a long while. It just had us come closer together before the school year even started,” mentioned Barrett.
