At the start of this school year, the Upper School introduced a new student-led program called the Student Activities Leadership Team (SALT). Reshaping what student government once was, this new program hopes to foster a Christ-centered school culture led by students.
“The Student Activities Leadership Team acts as a student-led organization that acts to serve the school community by leading events; building community and representing the student voice,” stated Dean of Student Engagement and SALT Adviser Ali Weller.
SALT consists of five branches of leadership: Spiritual Life Coordinators, Senior Event Coordinators, Student Life Coordinators, School Spirit Coordinators, and Media and Communication Coordinators. Each branch works toward the same goal: fostering a community with belonging at its core.
“The goal behind SALT is to get students more engaged in school activities,” said sophomore Cooper Tomasini, a Student Life Coordinator for SALT.
Junior William Aliff served on Pisgah’s Student Government and is now a Spiritual Life Coordinator for SALT.
“I wanted to become a member of SALT because I really like to be involved with the student body and want to make an impact and give it a community feel,” explained Aliff.
Meetings are held once or twice a month during lunch period, and members take turns leading the meetings. At the meetings, members discuss upcoming events and plan activities for the upper school.
This week, the SALT members met to plan homecoming. One of their biggest achievements of the meeting was starting a homecoming committee, open to any Pisgah student willing to help decorate for the dance. If you want to join the committee, or get service hours, contact senior Phoebe Koch for more details.
