The first show takes place on Nov. 19, but what takes place during the preparation for the shows?
The 2025 one-act play, titled “Shuddersome: Tales of Poe”, is a collection of popular short stories written by Edgar Allen Poe containing “Tell-tale Heart”, “The Bells”, “The Oval Portrait”, “The Raven” and “the Masque of Death”. With poetry turned to play, this show has a balance of drama, horror and comedy.
Overall, there are nine actors in this year’s one-act show ranging from freshmen to seniors. Each performer has already received their roles, and while every character is unique, the actors will add an interesting twist with how they portray their characters on stage.
“I [will be playing] Prince Prosper and I feel very connected [to the role] because I am basically royalty,” said sophomore Clayton Scarbrough.“My ancestors were actually Welsh royalty, so I’m kind of just stepping into some big shoes to fill.”
Rehearsals for the one-act are underway, with each actor working hard to connect with their respective roles and bring the entire show together.
While it is difficult for them to break down characters and bring them to life on stage, rehearsals have been described as lively and end up bringing everyone involved closer.
“Rehearsals are awesome because you can really grow,” said Scarbrough. “Thespian Troupe 7371 actually feels like a family more because of the rehearsals, and that’s really my favorite part about it.”
While we may be looking forward to seeing the final product, the actors are excited in their own ways. Whether it be for the rehearsals, the final show or just being able to help out backstage; each performer is working enthusiastically for this show.
“I am really looking forward to working with everyone,” said junior Paige Richards. “It’s a collaborative process and I love working with these really nice, really funny people.”
With a stronger horror aspect compared to past plays, “Shuddersome: Tales of Poe” will be an interesting change of pace for everyone.
