Over the years, the Upper School has implemented fun new programs and classes into its extensive curriculum, but one could argue that there is still a “missing ingredient”: a Culinary Arts program.
A Culinary Arts program would add a touch of spice to the elective classes Mount Pisgah offers. This addition would be an incredible opportunity for students to learn about the Culinary Industry, get hands-on experience, and learn essential life skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives, all while having fun and making delicious creations they can share with others.
“As someone who spends most of her free time baking or cooking, I definitely think we should have a Culinary Arts class,” said Ali Weller, a teacher at Mount Pisgah.
Weller teaches the new Adulting 101 elective at MPCS. Although this class includes a cooking unit, giving students the opportunity to focus on the culinary world through a class specifically about Culinary Arts would be much more beneficial for those interested or potentially exploring a career path in this industry.
“The Culinary Arts is a thriving industry, and training in the culinary arts can also provide practical life skills,” stated Weller.
For students, a culinary class is the perfect opportunity to gain experience in one of the most important skills anyone can have in life, while also opening a whole new work field for them to explore as a possible career.
“If the Upper School had this program, I would love to join and learn new skills,” said junior Brianny Rosado. “Being raised in a Hispanic household, food, and especially cooking, has been a beautiful way of connecting with my heritage.”
Senior Christian Lange also expressed positive emotions toward the idea.
“I think this class would be very beneficial for the school. It could help students relieve stress after hard classes and also eat good food,” explained Lange. “This would be a fun and educational class that could prepare students for the future, educate them on better eating habits, and even help them save money by knowing how to cook instead of ordering food.”
Adding a culinary arts course to the list of Mount Pisgah’s electives would be highly beneficial and enjoyable for the entire student body.
