Every year of high school, a new class rises into seniority. As it is a time of big decisions and reflection, it is also a year of benefits and celebration. From being able to have lunch in the patriot cafe to Senior Sunrise, senior perks brighten up the lives of all the seniors on campus and help make their last year of high school special.
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors all get excited for their upcoming senior year privileges, especially study halls and getaway days. One specific perk of senior year is getting extended Sharptop time.
“Seniors arrive on Sunday, and have some special activities that are just for them, and they have the opportunity to serve the middle school students during Senior Service,” says Ali. Weller, Dean of Student Engagement. “It is hard work, but it is such a unifying time for the Seniors, from my perspective. I loved getting to spend that time with them this year.”
Favorite privileges among seniors are hanging out in the Patriot Cafe, having a study hall elective, senior getaway trips and going off campus for lunch.
“Having an hour to reset and hang out with my friends outside of school is such a nice privilege, and I try to take advantage of it as much as I can,” said senior Maddie Cuppia.
A new perk added this year are getaway days, which allow the senior class to get off campus during a school day to get closer together and give students a break from the stress of senior year.
“I am ecstatic to spend time with my classmates on the senior getaway days and am very glad we have them,” says Senior RJ Zeising.
The privileges seniors currently get are really fun, but if it were up to the seniors, what new perks would they add? Some new perks seniors suggested were wearing letterman jackets instead of blazers on Thursdays, being exempt from AP Exams, no consequence-skip days and designated Bible Studies.
As a junior, I would love the addition of a designated Bible study next year. I feel that this would deepen advisories and our class’s faith and provide some peace among the noise of school and life. And of course, skip days are very appealing, at least from a student’s side.
As we watch Mount Pisgah grow, I think it will be very interesting to continue exploring how senior perks bring a sense of community and fun during senior year.
