If you are a collector of records or connoisseur of music you understand the excitement regarding purchasing or receiving a vinyl.
When Taylor Swift announced her newest and upcoming album “The Life of a Showgirl” over 150,000 vinyls were preordered, and in only 50 minutes.
At the point of writing this we are one week away from the release of the album and over 2 million copies have been sold. This number is constantly rising.
These vinyls can be up to $50 with shipping fees, if you choose to preorder a release.
Why would you even spend that much money if you could listen to the exact same songs, for free, on spotify?
You will have the same experience either way, right?
To put it simply, no; no you won’t.
How can you prove your love for an artist and get something fun in return? A physical commitment to your fanhood; By buying one (whether it’s a $15 single or $50 pre order) you have shown your appreciation to the music.
Although you do not have to buy a physical copy of the music to show your love for an artist, it sure does prove it. Nonetheless, buying a physical copy of the album, you essentially have a physical representation of your love for an artist.
Proving you are a fan of course is not the only reason to buy vinyl.
Vinyl records usually come with a poster or something you could display. Furthermore, album covers are artistic representations of the album and/or artist, something itself being worth displaying.
Vinyl ownership is an expression of love towards an artist and your passions. You are not just buying songs, but rather cultivating your place within the songs.
