For over 20 years, Mount Pisgah has gone to Sharptop Cove, a Younglife Camp, in Jasper, Georgia. This annual trip has united the Middle and Upper School’s student body through various activities like messy games and club time.
However, September was my last time up the mountain.
It was my last time down the zipline, my last time on the big swing, my last time having the big cookie, my last messy games and my last club time.
As a senior I was blessed with the opportunity to serve the Middle School students for the last half of the week as a senior leader for Mrs. Cummins’ sixth-grade girls, which taught me the importance of Matthew 20:28.
This verse emphasizes how Jesus came to serve us, so, as Christians, we should go out and serve. Working with this group of girls allowed me to see the beauty of spreading God’s love through acts that may be as simple as making a friendship bracelet.
Getting to spend time with this group of middle schoolers took me back to when I was their age trying to navigate the unknowns and challenges of middle school.
Seeing the looks on their faces as we attended club time and led small groups and different activities made me realize what Sharptop is all about: serving the Lord and spreading His everlasting love through worshiping with those around me.
My advice to the younger students: savor and enjoy every moment at Sharptop because before you know it, it will be your last time.
Getting to spend my last week at Sharptop with the entire Upper and Middle School students and faculty was truly something I will never forget. This annual trip to such a beautiful place created by the Lord has blessed me with lifelong friendships and memories for the last eight years and memories I made on this mountain will always hold a special place in my heart.
