Sitting by the fire, sipping on some hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies is a fun activity to do during the cold December days. But with so many Christmas movies out there, which to choose? My top three Christmas movies, “Home Alone”, “Elf” and “The Grinch” are guaranteed to make you laugh.
First, we have the chaotic Christmas classic, “Home Alone”. I could watch this movie over and over again without getting bored. I think a big part of why some kids enjoy this movie so much is because the main character, Kevin McCallister, is a child who lives the dream every kid has of being home alone. During his time home alone, he just goofs off and has fun doing whatever he wants. Even now I still find that aspect of the movie enjoyable. When he sets up the traps for the thieves that are trying to break into his house, I love watching all the amusing and creative things he uses to stop them. It’s no surprise to me that so many people have enjoyed watching this movie for years, so no wonder it’s my favorite.
Next, we all know actor Will Ferrell and the famous Christmas movie he stars in: “Elf”. Everyone loves a good laugh and this movie will definitely get a laugh out of anyone. “Elf” is about a human, Buddy, who ended up in the North Pole after sneaking into Santa’s present bag as a baby during Christmas. He grows up not quite fitting in with the other elves, and once he finds out he is human, he sets out to find his family in the real world. I love this movie because it is so lighthearted and such a happy movie to watch. Joining Buddy as he figures out how the world works is such a fun experience.
Lastly, I have to put “The Grinch” in my top three. While there are three different Grinches to choose from, my favorite is the classic “Grinch” that came out in 1966. The story everyone knows all too well is about the cynical Grinch who always just wants to be left alone. He hates Christmas so much, he decides to “steal” it, until he gets brought to the light and realizes the true meaning of Christmas and why it is celebrated so much. I think this movie reminds us of something we sometimes forget. Christmas isn’t all about gifts and tangible things, it’s about everyone being connected under the holiday spirit. It reminds us that kindness and love is and always will be something money or gifts can’t buy.
