The scent of cinnamon fills the air as we come closer to Thanksgiving, the holiday of family gatherings, mouth watering dinner spreads and unique traditions.
The Mount Pisgah family is full of diverse customs and dishes. Ranging from turkey to an infinite variety of pies, MPCS students have strong opinions about their favorite thanksgiving dishes.
Sophomore Bailey Waller told the Liberty Bell that her favorite Thanksgiving food is a peanut butter pie, made from a family recipe passed down for generations.
“Every year, my grandma will make two giant pies for our whole family. That dish is my family’s favorite, nothing compares to it,” said Waller.
Junior Brianny Rosado moved to the United States when she was years old. At first her family didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving.
“Eventually, my sisters and I started celebrating it by making a few traditional American recipes. Then we got the rest of my family to join,” said Rosado. “Personally, my favorite dish is the mac and cheese my sister Ara and I make every year. It was one of the first Thanksgiving meals we learned to make.”
“Every year, for Thanksgiving, my family and I go to my cousin’s house and have a big thanksgiving dinner. My favorite food is definitely my family’s apple pie,” said senior Khierstin Ayers.
Ayers added that “My grandma will gather all my cousins to help make the pie, we always have so much fun.”
Through these interviews, it is clear to see that these dishes are not merely food, they are beloved traditions, stories filled with laughter and memories overflowing with the joy of the holiday season.
At Mount Pisgah, we are thankful for every one of our students and faculty and the diverse stories and traditions they share with us.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Liberty Bell team!
