On National Signing Day on Feb. 4, Simmons signed to run track and field for the Division 1 Davidson Wildcats. He is now the second senior in the Mount Pisgah Class of 2026 to further his athletic career at the collegiate level.
Simmons’ four years on the Mount Pisgah varsity track team have been nothing short of incredible. He holds school records in the 200 meter dash and in long jump.
The crowning achievement of Simmons high school track career was winning the 2025 GHSA Track & Field State Championship in the long jump. Years before, in 2023, he was a main contributor to the 2023 Mount Pisgah Boys GHSA State Championship win.
Throughout his time at Mount Pisgah, Simmons has been coached by multiple people.
“I attribute my success to my parents who gave up so much for me to succeed and I thank every coach that poured their knowledge and instilled their discipline in me from a young age,” said Simmons.”
Outside of Mount Pisgah, Simmons competes in national meets. From top placements in Adidas Track Nationals to Nike Indoor Nationals to New Balance Nationals, he has showcased his immense skill as a sprinter and long jumper.
At Davidson next year, Simmons will primarily compete in the long jump but will also sprint. He chose Davidson because it felt like home.
“The people that welcomed me and the experience I had visiting there really gave me the impression that this place is going to be my next home,” Simmons stated.
Simmons gave advice to athletes hoping to compete at the next level.
“The unsureness of if you’re going to get recruited or not is a normal feeling, but how you treat that feeling will determine your outcome. Silence the doubters, the critics, the haters and do you,” said Simmons.
