The Red Cross is a global humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives and providing much needed emergency assistance, disaster relief and education. One of their most vital and largest programs is the blood drive, which helps collect life-saving blood donations to support hospitals and patients in need. Blood drives are crucial because donated blood is used for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatments and chronic illnesses.
On March 10, the Red Cross Club, in partnership with the Red Cross, hosted their third blood drive here at Mount Pisgah Christian School. This event offered a convenient opportunity for community members to contribute to a critical cause.
Senior and member of the Red Cross Club, Nancy Xue, was instrumental in the planning process of the annual blood drive.
“Since this is our 3rd year of hosting a blood drive at MPCS, we have established a direct connection with the local American Red Cross. This year, we communicated with the local leader through email to confirm the date,” said Xue. “After all these details were finalized, I hosted a meeting session for Red Cross Club members to discuss ways to promote the blood drive. Members created info slides and flyers, and I created sign-up forms for students, staff, and parents who are interested in donating blood or volunteering at the blood drive.”
Furthermore, donating blood is an extremely simple, and safe process that can make a huge difference in someone’s life.
“It is easy to donate. The whole process takes about an hour but the donation itself only takes about 15 minutes,” said Red Cross Club’s sponsor, Andrew Perry.. “Something so simple could have life-saving results.”
By participating, donors help maintain a stable blood supply and support health care systems in times of emergency.
“Every donation counts, but we hope we can make an even larger impact by having more than 80% of our allotments fulfilled,” states Perry.
The Red Cross encourages everyone eligible to continue joining in this compassionate effort and help save more lives.
