On Nov. 22, the Friday before the Thanksgiving Break, members of NAHS (National Art Honor Society) painted the windows of Geier Hall to decorate for the upcoming Christmas holiday.
Mrs. Steele, the NAHS sponsor, works with the NAHS members by picking the theme, ordering the colors of paint and materials needed, getting the supplies to the common and coordinating the food with Mrs. Ippolito and Mrs. Aliff.
“People don’t realize that so many students give up part of their break for window painting,” said Steele.
This year’s theme is “Bluey”, and senior Pearl Melioris, NAHS President, planned out this year’s design.
A lot of work goes into painting the windows. Before members of NAHS could start painting, Melioris started by sketching the designs on the windows using an iPad and drawing outlines of characters on the window.
“This step is important because if a character isn’t placed properly on the window, the beams in the windows can mess up the design entirely,” said Melioris. “It also helps give a guide for when I actually draw on the window with expo markers.”
While the Commons is Bluey themed, Geier Hall’s first floor windows featured snowmen, a Christmas tree and presents with an emphasis on Toys for Tots, an annual drive that National Honors Society sponsors.
“It’s really impressive to see all the work and the Christmas vibe,” said Jina Di, NAHS member.
Once outlines are drawn on the windows, members of NAHS come together to paint, which in total takes about three hours to complete.
“I adore how it came out,” said Melioris. “I think our artists did a phenomenal job capturing the charm and fun of the characters.”
Christmas window painting has been a long standing tradition for NAHS. Current seniors have painted many themes throughout their time at Mount Pisgah from “Charlie Brown Christmas” to “Frozen”.
“With this being the last one, all the seniors worked together so we could have one last memory painting together,” said senior Campbell Grace Cummins. “It was so special because our parents got to come help paint as well.”
We want to give a special thanks to all of our NAHS seniors! We will miss you next year!
