The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) holds an annual tradition of painting Geier Hall’s windows to celebrate the Christmas season. Students designed the windows all week and then spent an afternoon painting to create a variety of Christmas decorations that revolves around one central theme. This year’s was A Charlie Brown Christmas.
“I loved that NAHS decided to centralize its theme around Snoopy, and it was a chance to share beautiful art to the school and give the school holiday fun and joy,” said Sophia Nasieku, NAHS member.
Although the project was enjoyable for the members, many students noted that challenges came along the way, including having to use steady hands to paint on the windows and ensuring that each paint stroke was clean.
“The most challenging part of painting Geier’s windows was getting the paint to look even. It was easy for the paint to smudge or to visibly see the paint lines, so doing multiple layers of paint was very important to do,” said Lila McMurray.
Even with the challenges, members reflected on the many fun moments as they worked as a united organization helping each other perfect the details.
“My favorite part of participating in the project was being able to get ready for Christmas by spending time with my friends. We got to drink hot chocolate, and even just getting to paint was so relaxing,” added Nasieku.
NAHS holds high standards for high school students that must maintain outstanding ability and interest in the arts and provide leadership qualities through dedication.
“The annual Christmas painting in Geier Hall helped contribute to the purpose of NAHS to showcase everyone’s art skills and create connections with other students who are all passionate to do their best in the organization,” said McMurray.
