After waiting 364 days, Wicked For Good has finally been released to theaters. Part one of this movie was released in 2024, around the same time. Fans across the world have been counting down the days till they could finally see Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo on the big screen again as Glinda and Elphaba.

The making of the first movie started in December of 2022, and the second part was in production at the same time, ending in January of 2024. It took around three years to finish both movies, and with a budget of $300 million, making this the highest investment that Universal has ever made on a film. 

This movie was adapted from the broadway musical, which was originally adapted from the 1995 book written by Gregory Maguire. This movie took 160 days of shooting and had a total of 1200 cast members. 

If you watched the movie you know that Glinda and Elphaba are dressed in extravagant clothing. Grande had a total of 25 different looks and the costume department made over 1000 unique outfits with 225 hours of hand beading onto just one of Glinda’s dresses.

Many of the sets were made by hand like the school, the city and Munchkinland. In Munchkinland there were over 9 million tulips planted by the crew.

Erivo was painted green for her character, which took 4 hours to do each day. The goal of the movie team was to make Oz feel as real and alive as possible. So even though a lot of special effects are used they wanted to make the people and the places as realistic as they could. 

All of the behind the scenes truly make this movie what it is today. It shows the dedication of the crew and the intentionality behind the actors and how they chose to pursue their characters.
