With Coachella recently concluding, we were left with two amazing weekends of memorable appearances, guests, performances and outfits.
Coachella originally began in 1999, and is held in Indio, California. Since its debut, the music festival has expanded to two separate weekends.
Over the past 26 years, it has become an iconic annual cultural event; with each year showcasing new festival trends and people and celebrities from all over gathering.
Young people have flocked to the festival over the past (almost three) decades.
Due to immense popularity, tickets to the festival can cost anywhere from $500 to over $2,000; causing some to wonder why one would spend so much money just to overheat in southern California, only to listen to a singer perform a couple songs while squished in between random people?
I say to those people: That’s the beauty of Coachella. For what is more poetic than walking (what seems like a million miles), to dance to Lady Gaga in a dessert?
And if you really are dying to judge people for attending an art festival, I recommend you set your sights on Burning Man, which is undeniably…interesting.
Despite the age of the average Coachella attendee being 25, Bernie Sanders made a surprise appearance to introduce an indie pop artist named Claro.
Also in attendance was pop singer Charli xcx, who welcomed Lorde and Billie Eilish to join her on the stage. Both were featured on her album “Brat and It’s the Same but There’s Three More Songs So It’s Not”
Lorde and Charlie xcx sung their hit song “Girl So Confusing”. It was speculated that the song fueled a feud between the two singers, so it is so nice to see them on stage together.
Likewise, Eilish and Charli xcx performed Guess, a fan favorite on the album “Brat.”
One of the highlights of the festival is the people-watching and the outfits that are worn.
However, this year, there was an overwhelming number of the festival’s attendees dressed in a rather casual fashion. Usually, Coachella is a glorious mixing pot of different styles and cultures, illustrated by dramatic outfits.
The lack of creativity is disappointing because Coachella is a celebration of the art of music and fashion. It is only fitting that a festival that glorifies that fashion forward fun element, would get that appreciation. So, with all due respect, put away the t-shirt and shorts, and wear something fun and creative.
Despite all judgemental preconceived notions, Coachella has been an experience that unites people and creates memories to be cherished forever.
